Frequently Asked Questions — Statistics Calculator
What is standard deviation?+
Standard deviation (σ) measures how spread out numbers are from the mean. A low value means numbers are close to the mean; a high value means they are spread out. This calculator provides both sample (s) and population (σ) versions.
What is the difference between mean and median?+
Mean is the average of all values. Median is the middle value when sorted. Median is better for skewed data or when outliers are present.
How are outliers detected?+
Outliers are detected using the IQR method: any value below Q1−1.5×IQR or above Q3+1.5×IQR is considered an outlier.
