What is a normal LDL cholesterol level?+
ACC/AHA guidelines: Optimal: <70 mg/dL (very high risk), Near Optimal: 70–99, Borderline High: 100–129, High: 130–159, Very High: 160–189, Extremely High: ≥190. For most adults, the target is <100 mg/dL.
What cholesterol level is dangerous?+
LDL ≥190 mg/dL or Total Cholesterol ≥240 mg/dL are considered dangerously high. Low HDL (<40 mg/dL for men, <50 for women) is also a major independent risk factor for heart disease.
