For normal weight women (BMI 18.5-24.9), expected gain by week 20: approximately 5-6 kg. By week 28: 8-9 kg. Breakdown: baby + amniotic fluid + placenta + body fluid.
Is 1 kg per week weight gain normal in pregnancy?+
1 kg/week is slightly above recommended for the 2nd/3rd trimester (normal target: 0.35-0.50 kg/week for normal-weight women). It may indicate fluid retention or excess calorie intake. Discuss with your OB/GYN.
When does pregnancy weight gain seem fastest?+
Weight gain accelerates in the 2nd trimester (weeks 14-27) as the baby grows fastest. The 3rd trimester sees slightly slower weight gain per week but large increases in baby weight.
