Sun Exposure & Vitamin D Tracker
Calculate safe sun exposure time and vitamin D synthesis time based on your Fitzpatrick skin type and current UV index. Supports auto-fetch UV from your location.
How to use
- 1Select your skin type (Type I–VI) on the Fitzpatrick scale
- 2Choose the percentage of body exposed to sun
- 3Enter UV index manually or click "Get UV from Location"
- 4Results show: safe sun time and Vitamin D synthesis time
Frequently Asked Questions — Sun Exposure & Vitamin D Tracker
What formula is used to calculate safe exposure time?+
Formula: Minutes = (200 × SkinTypeConstant) / UVIndex. The skin type constant ranges from 1 (Type I, very fair) to 5 (Type VI, very dark). Higher UV index means shorter safe time.
How long does it take to synthesize enough Vitamin D?+
Typically 25–33% of your safe exposure time is enough to synthesize ~1,000 IU of Vitamin D, depending on body exposure percentage and skin type. Longer exposure does not produce more Vitamin D but increases skin cancer risk.
What UV index levels are dangerous?+
UV 1–2: Low (safe). UV 3–5: Moderate (take caution). UV 6–7: High (protection required). UV 8–10: Very High (avoid midday sun). UV 11+: Extreme (dangerous for all skin types).
